Divan Sets
Open Sprung Divan Set
These mattresses use 3″ diameter springs each linked by helicals to adjoining springs. Different spring gauges are used to give varying firmness of mattress. There are usually 288 springs in a 4’6 size. Platform top base or sprung base with or without drawers.

Pocket Sprung Divan Set
These are the best type of spring mattress available in a wide range of quality, firmness and comfort. Varying diameter springs not linked at all to surrounding springs but enclosed in a pocket (which is joined to other pockets) in such a way as to allow independent movement of each spring, thus allowing much higher level of body support. Anywhere from 800 springs upwards in a 5′ size.

Latex/Synthetic/Reflex Divan Set
These offer the best level of body support as the sleep surface is infinitely variable because there are no springs at all in these types of mattress. Most of these types of mattress do not need turning. Limited choice of base type with or without drawers. Some available only as mattresses to put on pine or metal bed frames.

Pine and Oak and Hardwood Beds
Bed frames with (usually) a wooden slat base. A range of traditional and contemporary designs are available. Frames are self assembly but can be assembled for a charge. All bed frames occupy more floor space than conventional divans. Sometimes a colour choice is available.

Metal Beds
Bed frames with either beech sprung slat base or pine slat base or some form of metal grid/bar base (depends on quality/price of frame). A wide variety of traditional and contemporary designs available sometimes with a choice of colour. Frames are self assembly and occupy more floor space than conventional divans.

Brass Beds
Bed frames usually of brass finish of steel construction with beech sprung slat base. Choice of traditional and contemporary designs. Most designs today are in antiqued brass finish. None of them need polishing. Frames are self assembly and occupy more space than conventional divans.

Pine Bunk Beds
Two beds stacked one above the other therefore occupying only one bed floor space. They usually split in to two separate beds. Some bunks have the option of an “L” shaped conversion kit which allows the bottom bed to be used at 90 degrees to the top bed. This configuration can have an advantage in small rooms. Mattresses are usually supported on pine slats. Sometimes a choice of colour. Frames are self assembly and occupy more floor space than conventional divan.

Metal Bunk Beds
Two beds stacked one above the other therefore occupying only one bed floor space. They usually split in to two separate beds. There is no “L” kit available as with Pine bunks. Mattresses supported on either pine slats or metal grid/bars. Sometimes choice of colour. Frames are self assembly and occupy more floor space than conventional divans.

Futons are pretty much in the same category as sofa beds. Similar designs are available i.e. “click-clack” and “A” frame. Traditionally, futons comprise multi layers of cotton felt inside a cotton cover – the whole being held together by ties or tufts. Nowadays, they are a variation on this design incorporating a layer of foam or other synthetic core to boost loft and minimise on settlement (futons will flatten out if not turned or rolled up regularly). Choice of covers available. Some styles are self assembly.

Bed Settees
Settees (as part of a suite or otherwise) that incorporate a metal two-fold action with sprung mattress or a metal three-fold action with a thinner foam mattress. Most of this type of bed are designed for occasional light use only. Some of the best grade bed settees (i.e. Relyon) are designed for heavier use. Two fold actions are normally a sprung mattress on beech sprung slats. Three fold actions are normally a foam mattress on a polypropylene base. A wide range of styles are available in traditional and contemporary covers.

Sofa Beds
These are usually more contemporary designs with or without arms and either some form of “click-clack” frame or “A” frame. They can be foam mattress/seating on a beech sprung slat or metal grid base or futon style mattress/seating on beech sprung slat or metal grid base. All are usually intended as occasional use guest bed and settee. Single size available in some designs. Cover choice available though this can be very limited on some models. Some styles are self assembly.

Range of single beds raised up higher than normal or to bunk bed height enabling space underneath to be used for housing chests of drawers, desks, mini robes and so on. Ideal for small rooms. Frames are self assembly and occupy more floor space than conventional divans.
Sofa Bunks/Study Bunks/Loft Beds
Similar to high sleepers. These are raised beds with either a futon sofa bed, desk and futon chair or nothing underneath. Again, ideal for small rooms. Frames are usually metal or pine, with a limited colour choice and either slat base or metal grid/bar base. Frames are self assembly and occupy more floor space than conventional divans.

Small, low, folding beds with either a metal frame, mesh base and thin foam mattress, or metal frame, mesh or beech sprung slat base and thicker foam mattress or spring mattress. Even the best of these is only intended for very occasional use. Some have a headboard option.

A conventional divan with a junior divan underneath (2’6 x 5’9) or
a pine divan with a full size bed underneath. Most options allow the under bed to be raised up to the height of the main bed allowing them to be used pushed together as a double or they can be used as entirely separate beds. On some bottom range versions the under bed does not raise up and it doesn’t have a separate mattress.

Range of single beds raised up higher than normal or to bunk bed height enabling space underneath to be used for housing chests of drawers, desks, mini robes and so on. Ideal for small rooms. Frames are self assembly and occupy more floor space than conventional divans.
These can also be supplied in solid pine.

Slightly longer than normal mattress on an electrically adjustable beech sprung slat base (usually) allowing infinitely variable mattress contouring. Mattresses are pocket sprung or a variety of synthetic/memory/latex foam types. Optional built in massage, or separate massage pads, are available on some models. Both single and double sizes are available (doubles as either one action frame or twin split frame with metal, pine or upholstered surround).

Children's Beds
Limited choice available in both pine and conventional divans. Pine frames are self assembly and are lower and smaller than standard size (mattress size 2’6 x 5’5). Conventional divans are simply smaller versions of adult beds. There are really no mattress strengths designed specifically for children – parents usually choose bed comforts they prefer. Storage options are available usually in the form of slidestores (or pine drawers to fit under pine beds).
Special Size/Bespoke Beds
Bespoke service allows the customer to choose special width/length/height of divan sets and width/length of mattress to suit their needs. Not all manufacturers offer this service, and of those that do, not all products are available in special size/bespoke. Extra care must be taken with larger than normal size products that they will go through doors, up stairs and generally fit the room. Smaller than normal sizes are also available.
